How To Make An Easy, Quick Chocolate Candy Cane Rudolph Craft|DIY Kids Crafts|Dollar Store Crafts



Great for kids to make for home or to give as gifts.





Dollar Store Items:



2 Chocolate candy filled candy canes

Google eyes

Red pom pom

Toilet paper roll or brown construction paper* (not from dollar store)

White school glue (dries clear)



You can also add a red ribbon around his "neck", or a bell on a string.  Make it your own creation!  Above all else, have fun and be festive!!

3 Easy Toddler Christmas Crafts

Paper Garland

Supplies:

Construction paper in multiple colors

White school glue

Scissors

Optional: Glitter

Instructions:

• Cut the paper into 1 inch strips.  I find it easier to cut across the shorter (width) of the paper, and cut a couple sheets at the same time.
• TIP:  cutting portion of this craft can be done in advance
• Take the first strip and create a circle (link) and apply glue to inside of edges, sticking them together.
• Put another piece inside to link them together and repeat the process.  Continuing linking them together until you have the length of garland/chain you desire.
• You can add glitter to the links or leave them plain.
• TIP:  Use clothespins or paperclips to hold the glued section of each link together while it dries.
• Allow to dry.
• Hang :)

Just be sure to allow it to dry thoroughly before hanging it, so that the links don’t come apart.  Especially easy for toddlers.  Just be sure to supervise them with blunt-tipped scissors or provide pre-cut pieces.

Paper Snowflakes

Supplies:

Paper

Glitter

White school glue

Scissors

Instructions:

• You can use something circular (like bottom of a coffee can) to trace circles on paper and cut them out.
• Alternatively, you can use paper coffee filters and flatten them out.
• Folding the circle multiple times will help to create different designs.
• To test it out, fold the paper in half, matching up the edges.  Fold again.
• Next you will cut out little pieces.  Either slivers, nicks, tiny circles, etc.
• Unfold the paper to see your finished design.
• You can refold it and cut more if desired.
• Once you see how your cuts change the paper, you can get creative with how you cut the next ones.
• Once you’re pleased with your design, add small dots of glue on the snowflake and add glitter.
• Allow to dry well before hanging.

TIP:  For these, I use either bent paper clips, or regular ornament hooks.

Alternatively, you can just use coffee filters instead of regular or construction paper.  You don’t want the paper to be too heavy/thick otherwise it will be difficult to fold multiple times and cleaning cut out pieces.

Just be sure to allow it to dry thoroughly before hanging it.  This craft can be simplified for toddlers if they know how to use blunt scissors.  Use thin paper and only fold a couple times.  You may have to draw lines to guide them where to cut to form the snowflake shape.  

DIY Painted Globe Christmas Ornaments

DIY Painted Christmas Ball Ornaments

Supplies:

Clear plastic ornaments

Acrylic (white) paint*

Poster paint

White school glue

Glitter

Water

*Not purchased at the dollar store

Instructions:

Prepare the ornament by carefully removing the metallic top piece.  These are typically thin and easily bent, so be careful not to damage them.

Get your supplies together and prepare your work space with newspaper.

Below are the instructions for the two ornaments I've shown you.

Marbled Painted Ornaments:

• Mix a small amount of white acrylic in a cup or small bowl.  Add a few drops of water and mix until the paint is thin enough to pour.

• Pour some of the white paint inside the ball.  Slowly roll, twist and turn until the inside of the ball ornament is coated to your liking.

• Mix a second paint color with a small amount if water and mix until thin enough to pour.  Pour a small amount inside the ornament as you did with the white and repeat the inner painting process.

• You can continue doing this with multiple colors until the desired effect is achieve.  My only caution here is that too many colors can create a "muddy" look.  If you'd like to use many colors, allow time for each coat to dry before adding the next color.

• Allow some time for the paint to dry.  Then, carefully put the top piece back on the ornament.

Marbled Painted Ornament

Solid with Glitter Painted Ornaments:

• Mix a small amount of white acrylic in a cup or small bowl.  Add a few drops of colored paint (I used blue poster paint) and mix until desired color achieved.  Remember you want to start with a white base and add tiny amount of color.  It is easier to darken white paint, then to lighten dark paint.  Then, add a few drops of water at a time and mix until the paint is thin enough to pour.

• Pour some of the mixed paint inside the ball.  Slowly roll, twist and turn until the inside of the ball ornament is coated.  You can put your thumb over the hole and shake gently, to help coat the entire inside.

• Allow time to dry.  Then, carefully put the top piece back in.

• TIP:  Set the ornament on an empty toilet paper roll to create a stand while you decorate.  

• Create your design with thin lines of white school glue.  Try to use only as much as you need, to avoid the glue from running or dripping along the ball.  Then, shake glitter over the glue.  Be sure to coat the glue lines thoroughly.  The glue will dry clear so don't worry if it's not perfect.

• After the glue has dried, you can use a dry paint brush to brush away any stray glitter.

BONUS TIP:  Fold up the paper you used for your work space, creating a crease where the glitter will shift into.  Then, tap the paper gently and pour the excess glitter into a container.  Over time, you will have a nice multi-colored rainbow of glitter to use in other projects.  It will be less mess to clean up as well.

DIY Glitter Candle Holder

DIY Glitter Candle Holder

Supplies:

Glass candle holder
Paper
Scissors*
White school glue
Glitter
Paint brush
Tape
Candle of your choice, that fits inside the glass.


*Not purchased at the dollar store

• Prepare the candle holder by washing in warm water to remove dirt, dust and fingerprints.  Dry well.
• Get your supplies together and prepare your work space with newspaper.

Tip:  Wearing gloves prevents leaving fingerprints all over the glass


Below are the instructions for candle holder I've shown you in the above video.

Instructions:

• Create a stencil (or use one you already have) for the shape you want around the base of the holder; mine is a Christmas tree.

• Take your large piece of paper and fold accordion style, so that when you cut out your shape, it creates a chain.  Because the glass I'm using has an uneven portion, I made a wide band at the bottom to cover that. 
• Once you have your chain, turn the glass upside down and tape the paper to the glass.  Arrange it as you would like it.
• Pour a small amount of white school glue into a cup or small bowl.
• Using a paint brush, paint all of the exposed glass with glue. Make sure you glue carefully around the edges of the shapes so you will get a clear edge to the design.
• Shake glitter on the glued areas.
• You can also add glue to the rim of the glass and set the glass upside down in the extra glitter on your work paper.
• Allow to dry.
• Remove the paper shapes.  If you'd like to keep the paper shapes, that's fine too.  The glue will dry clear and the shapes will be stuck to the glass.
• Insert your candle that fits inside the glass.

Makes a great gift or home decoration.

Magic Reindeer Food

DIY Magic Reindeer Food

Supplies:

1-2 cups oats (for oatmeal)

1/2 cup oat cereal (like Cheerios)

1/2 cup sugar

Red and Green food coloring

Glitter (optional)

Plastic snack bags

Stickers

Labels and marker OR printed Reindeer Food Instructions

Instructions:

• In a bowl mix the oats and oat cereal.
• Split the 1/2 cup sugar into two small bowls, approximately 1/4 cup in each.  
• In one bowl mix a few drops of red food coloring with the sugar until all sugar is colored.
• In other bowl mix a few drops of green food coloring with the sugar until all sugar is colored.
• Add colored sugar to oat mix in bowl.
• If desired, sprinkle a dash of glitter into the mix to add sparkle. 
• Mix well.
• Label the plastic zipper snack bags with the Reindeer Magic Food instructions/poem.  Add stickers and other decorations as you'd like.
• Fill bag with mix.

Makes about 4 snack-sized bags.
